For me, personally, I need to find meaning in the music, or I hate it. If you don't know what I mean, I mean I can't stand songs talking about, "Fuck society!" over and over again without giving a real reason why. I need my songs to actually have a meaning, and I like the music. There's even bands I like that I can't understand, yet you know they convey a deeper message then so much normal music that just talks about pointless shit over and over again. Point and case; most music is just out there for making cash. While it's possible to do both, I need them to actually be saying something relevant and not just saying how sexy someone is, or how bad they want to fuck them. Or how fun it is to get lit up and smashed, or how it's fun to be pointlessly angry. Try bands that the lyrics can even be considered poetic, and speak out against things they feel strongly about, such as the song, Red Soil by Dir en Grey, Vicarious by Tool, just something that carries more meaning then sex, drugs, money, and pointless anger.

I love music a lot, and I listen to a really wide variety of stuff. A lot of it is what you dislike, but I do understand. I love it when lyrics are poetic or profound. It makes the experience so much better. While I love being at a loud obnoxious punk rock show, it is so engaging when they're singing about something that they believe in in a coherent fashion.
